Don't forget to follow us!!

If you have been absent, look below for catch up activities you can do at home!
Once you do the work don't forget to bring it in!

English

In Autumn term 2, our focus text will be Kipper's Toybox by Mick Inkpen

We will be continuing to practise our writing skills and learning what we need to do to make our sentences perfect!!
This term we will be working hard to leave spaces between our words and remembering to use a capital letter and a full stop when writing simple sentences.

Catch up activity - Can you practise forming all your letters in the correct direction, starting and finishing in the right place?

Maths

In Maths we are learning about counting forwards and backwards, counting in 2's and recognising numbers.
We will be adding and subtracting numbers and exploring shape and position.
We will be learning all about our new classroom and learning where all the different maths resources and equipment is to help us with our number work. We are striving to be super independent learners!

Catch up activity - Can you count, read and write numbers up to 50?

Reading

The children will read at least once a week in their guided reading groups.

Year 1 are encouraged to change their home reading books on a Monday and a Thursday . We have a basket with different coloured books in and the children can choose a book once they have read it at least 3 times. The 1st time they will be getting to know the book. The 2nd time they will be reading the book with more clarity and beginning to understand it. The 3rd time we encourage parents to use the guided reading questions provided to ask the children about the story as this helps when we come to our half termly assertive mentoring tests :) It is important the the child can not only read the book but also understand what they are reading. We will re-test the children at the end of this half term and this will determine whether your child will change a book band / colour :)

Spellings
In Autumn 2, we will be having spelling tests on a Friday.

PE Days

On Monday and Tuesdays we have P.E,  so please ensure your child has their full P.E. kit in school, (tshirt, shorts pumps) all earrings must be removed or covered up. If your child needs a new P.E. kit they are available to buy at the school office.

Grandparent Toy Afternoon: Thursday 16th November

We look forward to each and everyday in Year 1 and hope that all of the children enjoy their time with us as we continue to strive for excellence.
