 'ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE!'

Welcome to Year 2

Summer Term:
Zoo Project: What happens when there is no more palm oil? Make that Change!!
We are the future and have a role to play for future generations.

If you have been absent look below for catch up activities you can do at home! Once you do the work don't forget to bring it in!

English

This term we are reading 'Snowboy and the Last Tree Standing' by Hiawyn Oram and 'The great Kapok tree' by Lynne Cherry.  We will be writng lots of exciting stories, descriptions and extending our vocabulary. We are looking forward to finding out about the Borneo Rainforests and writng fact files.

Maths

This half term we will be continuing to consolidate the four operations and completing many different reasoning problems. We will also look at estimating and using these skills to help with the four operations. Please help your children to tell the time to the nearest 5 miniutes at home as we will be working hard to tell the time this term.

Topic

This term we are asking the question ... What would happen if there was no more Palm Oil?

We are very excited about starting our new Curriculum Topic in partnership with Chester Zoo. We will be focusing on how we can MAKE THAT CHANGE. Please ask your children what they have learnt so far! Already we have had a visit from the rangers at Chester Zoo who have informed us about the rainforest. We cannot wait to do more research and visit the Zoo.

Catch up activities

English

Can you write a list of verbs in the past and present tense to describe an Orangutan?

Maths

Can you tell the time to the nearest 5 mintues?

Reading

Each day we expect the children to bring their book bags with their reading books and diary so they can read to an adult at school. The children will be expected to read at home on a daily basis and parents to write a comment in their diaries. Once the children have read their book they can change it independently from the basket in the classroom.

Homework

This will be given every Friday and it will consist of Maths or Literacy. The children will be expected to return their completed homework by the following Thursday.

We are also sending out weekly spellings, please make sure you are going over these with your child.

We also expect children to read each night and for a comment to be added in their reading record.

As part of our Zoo project we would like to encourage the children to continue researching at home and if they wanted to make a model of an Orangutan or other animals from the rainforest please feel free.

PE Days

On Monday and Tuesdays we have P.E. so please ensure your child has their full P.E. kit in school, (tshirt, shorts, pumps) all earrings must be removed or covered up.  With the lovely weather we hope to complete our P.E sessions outside so children will need to wear the appropriate footwear. New PE Kits are available to buy from the school office.

We look forward to each and everyday in Year 2 and hope that all of the children enjoy their time with us as we continue to Achieve Excellence.

We are on Twitter and the children will be tweeting thoughtout the day! Don't forget to follow us.

Thank you
