Welcome to Year 2

Autumn Term:
Our topic this term

Up, Up and Away!

If you have been absent look below for catch up activities you can do at home! Once you do the work don't forget to bring it in!

English

This term we are reading 'Dougal the Deep Sea Diver' by Simon Bartram.  We will be writng lots of exciting character descriptions, stories and extending our vocabulary. We will be learning about nouns and adjectives and writing some interesting noun phrases.  If you have any books or information about diving adventures or African Safaris please bring them in to share with our class.

Maths

This half term we will  consolidate what we know about place value of numbers up to 100. We will be comparing numbers depending on their size, and recapping what we already know about addition and subtraction. We will be doing reasoning problems to secure our understanding of what we have learnt.

Please help your children to learn their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables.

Topic

This term we are looking at 'Up, Up and Away!' and the difference between England and Africa. We will be doing some geographical work, locating countries on a map and comparing landscapes.

Catch up activities

English

Can you write your own adventure story set on an African Safari?

Maths

Can you count to 120 in 10s? Can you do it backwards?

Reading

Each day we expect the children to bring their book bags with their reading books and diary so they can read to an adult at school. The children will be expected to read at home on a daily basis and parents to write a comment in their diaries. Once the children have read their book they can change it independently from the basket in the classroom.

Homework

This will be given every Friday and it will consist of Maths or Literacy. The children will be expected to return their completed homework by the following Wednesday.

We are also sending out weekly spellings, please make sure you are going over these with your child.

We also expect children to read each night and for a comment to be added in their reading record.

PE Days

On Monday and Thursdays we have P.E. so please ensure your child has their full P.E. kit in school, (tshirt, shorts, pumps) all earrings must be removed or covered up.  New PE Kits are available to buy from the school office.

We look forward to each and everyday in Year 2 and hope that all of the children enjoy their time with us as we continue to Achieve Excellence.

We are on Twitter and the children will be tweeting thoughtout the day! Don't forget to follow us.

Thank you
