In 2H we are always 'Striving for Excellence!'

Welcome to Year 2

If you have been absent look below for catch up activities you can do at home! Once you do the work don't forget to bring it in!

This half term we will be reading a book called 'Dougal the deep sea diver' by Simon Bartham. In our writing we will be learning to use adjectives, nouns and conjunctions to write stories, information texts about seahorses and write letters.  Every Friday the children will bring home a list of spellings to learn for a test the following week. Please help your child to learn their weekly spellings. Our big focus in year 2 is reading comprehension so the children will be answering lots of questions about the texts they are reading at home and school. Please encourage your to read at home as oftern as possible.

This half term we will be learning all about numbers to 100 and looking at place value. We have already been writing the numbers words and matching them to numerals and pictures. We will be solving lots of mathematical problems and using our reasoning skills.  At home it would be great if you could help your child to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

This half term we are asking the question ...Would you rather live in England or Africa?

We have already had lots of exciting homework from the children about Africa which the children have loved sharing with the rest of the class. Thank you for your support. This half term we will be learning to dance the Waka Waka, making African musical instruments and comparing and contrasting life in Africa to Ellesmere Port.

Catch up activities

Can you write a list of nouns you can see around the house?

Can you recall your 10 times table forwards and backwards?

Each day we expect the children to bring their book bags with their reading books and diary so they can read to an adult at school. The children will be expected to read at home on a daily basis and parents to write a comment in their diaries. Once the children have read their book they can change it independently from the basket in the classroom.

This will be given every Friday and it will consist of Maths or Literacy. The children will be expected to return their completed homework by the following Thursday.

We are also sending out weekly spellings, please make sure you are going over these with your child.

We also expect children to read each night and for a comment to be added in their reading record.

PE Days

On Monday and Tuesdays we have P.E. so please ensure your child has their full P.E. kit in school, (tshirt, shorts, pumps) all earrings must be removed or covered up.  New PE Kits are available to buy from the school office.

We look forward to each and everyday in Year 2 and hope that all of the children enjoy their time with us as we continue to strive for excellence.

We are on Twitter and the children will be tweeting thoughtout the day! Don't forget to follow us.

Thank you
