Welcome to Year 2

Autumn Term:
Our topic this term

Are you a Hero or a Villain?

If you have been absent look below for catch up activities you can do at home! Once you do the work don't forget to bring it in!

This term we are reading 'Traction Man' by Mini Grey.  We will be writng lots of exciting stories, character descriptions and extending our vocabulary. We will be learning about nouns and adjectives and writing some interesting noun phrases. We will also be reading 'Inside the Villains' to find out all about Villains and help us to build our own character descriptions. If you have any books or information about villains at home please bring it into to school to share.

This half term we will continue to build on our knowledge of numbers. We will then consolidate what we know about addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and use these to solve word problems. We will also be learning about money.

Please help your children to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

This term we are looking at The Great Fire of London and famous people from the past. We will be learning about what life was like in 1966 during the fire and we will investigate why the fire could have spread so quickly.
We will also be learning about Burwardsley and we will compare this to our local area of Ellesmere Port.

Catch up activities

Can you write a list of adjectives to describe your favourite hero or villain?

Can you count to 30 in 3s?

Each day we expect the children to bring their book bags with their reading books and diary so they can read to an adult at school. The children will be expected to read at home on a daily basis and parents to write a comment in their diaries. Once the children have read their book they can change it independently from the basket in the classroom.

This will be given every Friday and it will consist of Maths or Literacy. The children will be expected to return their completed homework by the following Thursday.

We are also sending out weekly spellings, please make sure you are going over these with your child.

We also expect children to read each night and for a comment to be added in their reading record.

PE Days

On Monday and Tuesdays we have P.E. so please ensure your child has their full P.E. kit in school, (tshirt, shorts, pumps) all earrings must be removed or covered up.  New PE Kits are available to buy from the school office.

We look forward to each and everyday in Year 2 and hope that all of the children enjoy their time with us as we continue to Achieve Excellence.

We are on Twitter and the children will be tweeting thoughtout the day! Don't forget to follow us.

Thank you
