In 2O we are always 'Striving for Excellence!'

Welcome to Year 2

If you have been absent look below for catch up activities you can do at home! Once you do the work don't forget to bring it in!

This half term we are reading fairytales. We will be starting with reading 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' and we are very lucky to be visiting the Civic Hall to watch a performance of 'Little Red and the Big Bad Wolf' In our writing we will be learning to use adjectives, nouns, conjunctions and subordination to write stories, information texts letters.  Every Friday the children will bring home a list of spellings to learn for a test the following week. Please help your child to learn their weekly spellings. Our big focus in year 2 is reading comprehension so the children will be answering lots of questions about the texts they are reading at home and school. Please encourage your child to read at home as often as possible.

This half term we will be continuing to learn all about numbers to 100 and looking at place value. In the next few weeks we will look at money and the value of all coins. If you have any opportunities to look at money with your child please do. We will be solving lots of mathematical problems and using our reasoning skills. At home it would be great if you could help your child to learn their 2, 3 and 5 times tables.

This term we are asking the question ... What's up our street?

We will be looking at what is in and around our area of Ellesmere Port and how it is the same and different to life in Victorian Times. If you have any pictures of the local area, which you would like to share with us please bring them into school. We will be experiencing life in a Victorian classroom and looking at artefacts from the past.

Catch up activities

Can you write a list of adjectives to describe the character of Goldilocks?

Can you recall your 2, 5 and 10 times table?

Each day we expect the children to bring their book bags with their reading books and diary so they can read to an adult at school. The children will be expected to read at home on a daily basis and parents to write a comment in their diaries. Once the children have read their book they can change it independently from the basket in the classroom.

This will be given every Friday and it will consist of Maths or Literacy. The children will be expected to return their completed homework by the following Thursday.

We are also sending out weekly spellings, please make sure you are going over these with your child.

We also expect children to read each night and for a comment to be added in their reading record.

PE Days

On Monday and Tuesdays we have P.E. so please ensure your child has their full P.E. kit in school, (tshirt, shorts, pumps) all earrings must be removed or covered up.  New PE Kits are available to buy from the school office.

We look forward to each and everyday in Year 2 and hope that all of the children enjoy their time with us as we continue to strive for excellence.

We are on Twitter and the children will be tweeting thoughtout the day! Don't forget to follow us.

Thank you
