Welcome to Year 3

In 3W we are always 'Striving for Excellence!'

Our topic this term is ...'On a Journey - Wish You Were Here!' We will learn all about the island of Anglesey and what life is like there. We will learn to speak some Welsh, taste and make some traditional Welsh foods, draw and paint some landscapes and much, much more.

Our residential to the Conway Centre, Anglesey on 28th February - 2nd March will be a great opportunity to help bring our learning to life.

In Years 3 and 4, we will be focusing on the following things:

  •  Developing our comprehension skills -  working on word meaning, retrieval and inference questions. We will be improving our vocabulary and understanding, as well as answering questions by using clues in the text.

  • Becoming familiar with features of adventure stories and Welsh legends.

  • Continuing to develop our love of reading.  3W LOVE reading!

  • Being introduced to and inspired by different authors – Our author of the month for January is Jeff Brown (Flat Stanley), February - Georgia Pritchett (Wilf - the Mighty Worrier) and March - Dick King- Smith (The Sheep Pig).

  • Writing character descriptions, instructional texts, formal and informal letters, writing postcards, performing and reciting poetry, writing and performing radio advertisements and writing non-chronological reports about puffins. (It would be rude not to considering that we're visiting the home of puffins!)

  • Improving our knowledge of SPaG.

In Maths we will be looking at the 4 mathematical operations and mathematical reasoning. We will be focussing on developing our fluency, problem-solving and reasoning using APE. (Answer it, Prove it, Explain it!)

It would be really helpful if you could-

  • Practise all of the times tables

  • Let your child explain what they have done in maths that day

This term we will be using our detective skills and investigating ROCKS. We will be comparing and grouping different rocks based on their appearance and physical properties. We will describe how fossils are formed and investigate how soil is made.

It's sedimenatry dear Watson!

Our topic this term is 'On a Journey - Wish You Were Here!'  We will be studying the locality of Anglesey and developing our geographical skills. In DT, we will be tasting and making some traditional Welsh foods. In Art, we will look at the artist - David Hockney and create landscapes inspired by him.

In RE we will be looking at Biblical stories and what we can learn from them. In computing we will be continuing to work on emailing and our knowledge of e-saftey.

It's going to be busy, busy, busy! But we're up for the challenge.

PE Days

Wednesdays and Fridays we have P.E. so please ensure your child has their full pe kit in school, (t-shirt, shorts pumps) all earrings must be removed or covered up. If your child needs a new PE kit they are available to buy at the school office.
